One of the most open-minded cities in South Florida, Ft. Lauderdale
is full of comfortable and captivating places to stay for the
gay and lesbian traveler. Accommodations range from cozy apartment
motels to swank, well-appointed resorts. The majority of them
are in the beach area, not far from one of the city's gay-friendly
beaches at Sebastian Street and A1A. The Royal Palms Resort and
the Flamingo Resort are two in this area that continually draw
rave reviews, as does the Bahama Hotel, though its clientele is
mixed, gays and straights.
Other lodging catering strictly to gays are near Las Olas Boulevard
and the Victoria Park neighborhoods, sections of the city with
tree-lined streets, distinctive dining and nightlife, excellent
shopping and cosmopolitan residents. The Sea Grape House, an establishment
that bills itself as Ft. Lauderdale's only gay bed and breakfast,
is serenely located in Wilton Manors, which is fast becoming the
new gay epicenter of Ft. Lauderdale and boasts a plethora of gay-owned,
gay friendly shops, bars and restaurants.
